V-Moda Hexamove Pro is a huge improvement to Lite, although it still lacks key features.

V-Moda Hexamove Pro is a huge improvement to Lite, although it still lacks key features.

V-Moda recently released their first premium wireless earbuds: Hexamove Pro. This model joins the cheap Hexamove Lite as part of the brand's 2021 holiday launch and new true wireless product lineup. Both models have similar characteristics, from a customizable design to the same driver and battery life, although this is an overwhelmingly superior version.

Hexamove Pro also has quite a few flaws. It does not support applications at startup and excludes outstanding features such as active noise reduction, environmental listening, and wireless charging, making it no longer an attractive choice. However, if you are satisfied with these omissions, the sound quality alone is sufficient to justify your purchase.

Hexamove Pro is sold at major online retailers (including B&H and Sweetwater) or directly from V-Moda for $169. Shield customization increased the MSRP to $190. It comes in black or white. Inside the box is a charging box, 2 loops, 2 sports fins, 2 ear hooks, 2 pairs of additional shields, 3 sets of BLISS accessories (S, M, L), neck strap, stabilizer and USB-C charging String.

These headphones are more expensive than sub-luxury ANC models such as Beats Studio Buds (US$149) and Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 (US$149), but cheaper than similar products such as AirPods Pro (US$249) and Sony WF-1000XM4 (US$279).

The elite design pedigree of V-Moda has been fully demonstrated. The hexagonal shape looks cool, and small details such as the silver decoration around the touch sensor add a luxurious look to the headset. They have an IPX5 rating of dust, water and sweat resistance, and their sturdy structure ensures that they can survive when dropped to the ground.

However, it is the sliding and locking protective cover that makes Hexamove Pro swagger. Being able to use any modern design and stylish monogram on the V-Moda website to personalize buds is great. You will surely find something suitable for your fashion taste among the many artworks.

The Pro and Lite charging case are the same, except that the smallest details inside have been removed; there are grooves to accommodate the integrated tip on the Pro version. Nonetheless, each one is a huge piece of plastic, adding weight to the equation and unnecessary bumps.

The comfort is okay. The ergonomic shape makes it easier to adjust the buds and provides enough space for the cavity to be placed comfortably on the outer ear without applying too much pressure. Before fatigue begins, you can wear the headset continuously for about 2 hours.

Do you know how earplugs affect the fit of AirPods Pro? Well, the same applies to the wingtips on Hexamove Pro. I find these buds are suitable for jogging in the neighborhood and walking around the house. Removing the wingtips will increase slip, which is a lot of things I have experienced while wearing Hexamove Lite. All bundled accessories enhance in-ear stability and turn Hexamove Pro into reliable sports headphones.

Hexamove Pro and Lite share the control scheme, but its function on Pro is much stronger. Click once on any headset to play/pause/answer the call/hang up, and double-click/three times on the left earbud will skip forward/backward a track, and click three times on the left earbud The digital assistant can be activated.

The touch sensor on the Hexamove Pro is also more sensitive and may be too sensitive, because the slightest touch usually performs a click gesture. My wife regrets that I hung up her phone three times (by mistake) while adjusting the buds to get the best fit. In addition, the touch accuracy of the left earphone is turned off, which means that I have to perform three tap gestures multiple times to open the digital assistant.

Hexamove Pro is compatible with Siri, Google Assistant and Bixby. I tested this feature on iOS/macOS and Android devices (Google Pixel 2XL and Samsung Galaxy Note S20 Ultra), and all three AI robots run smoothly.

When you take off the headset or put the headset back on your ear, in-ear detection cannot be used to automatically pause/play content.

According to the Hexamove Pro and Lite product pages, they both come with 6 mm diaphragm drivers. Whether V-Moda has a different design for each model is still unknown, but I can tell you directly that Pro has made finer adjustments. You can get a combination of "powerful bass, lively midrange, and original treble" advertising to produce an excellent overall sound.

Symphony like "Summer Madness" by Kool & the Gang is auditory stimulation. I really like the instrument combination of serenade in my ears. The atmospheric synthesizer is perfectly reproduced. Even some less memorable notes, such as low-speed drum beats and steady hi-hats, are prominent throughout the recording.

The low-end of Hexamove Pro has also been better balanced. The calm but trendy bass line in KRS-One's "A Friend" hits harder and blends well with drums and movie violin samples. When obsessed with jazz playlists, my listening time is best used. Sarah Vaughan's "Misty" sounds beautiful from every sound angle. The singer’s enthusiastic singing shows the delicate midrange of Bud, while the soft horn and double bass sound out of the ordinary.

The noise isolation of Hexamove Lite is not so good, but this is not the case with these buds. The wingtips and earplugs keep the Hexamove Pro locked, allowing me to hear the sound completely without any external noise spreading into the soundscape.

These headphones do support the V-Moda application and one feature: EQ. Unfortunately, V-Moda has postponed the availability of the application until the end of November.

Despite being a more expensive version, the battery life of Hexamove Pro is the same as Hexamove Lite: 6 hours. Approximately 3 to 4 days of moderate use (1.5 hours per day) before charging. Also keep in mind that high volume and streaming will shorten playback time by 30 minutes.

The huge charging box can only last for 24 hours, which is not so exciting. Of course, you have to perform fast charging and wireless charging on this model, right? Do not. V-Moda also excludes them from the Hexamove Pro specification sheet.

The call quality of Hexamove Lite is better than Hexamove Pro. When talking with Pro, my wife said that I sounded very far away indoors, and bored outdoors. A lot of environmental noise enters our chats, especially wind, which makes it sometimes difficult to communicate.

Bluetooth 5.0 provides you with comprehensive and stable wireless performance. Buds not only provide a long distance of 45 feet and can move freely in open spaces, but they also have powerful pairing and automatic connection functions. Opening the case will automatically enable pairing mode and connect the headset to the last identified device. Even better is to include multipoint technology to pair with two devices at the same time.

Hexamove Pro is a huge upgrade of Hexamove Lite. It is satisfying to enjoy all types of music as well as the sound of movies and podcasts. Fit has been enhanced due to V-Moda's extensive bundled accessory kit. The touch control and connectivity of these headphones are also more reliable. You can't talk about Hexamove Pro without acknowledging the innovative design.

The shocking thing is that these headsets lack common and popular features (such as ANC, wireless charging), and the lack of access to supporting applications at startup will aggravate the damage. Don't let us start to study the huge charging box.

Brand enthusiasts will find Hexamove Pro great value for money, but they can also get higher performance from cheaper models such as Beats Studio Buds or Samsung Galaxy Buds 2.
